Tyler ISD student places in national art contest

August 31, 2016

Former Bonner Elementary School student Eric Lester, who is now a sixth grader at Moore MST Magnet School, is a talented football and basketball player. However, it was his artistic talent that was recently recognized with a second place award in a national art contest sponsored by Royal & Langnickel Brush, MFG.

Last March, Bonner Elementary School submitted 20 entries for the Royal & Langnickel Brush national art contest. Eric’s still life painting of a red rose in a clear vase sitting near a window being warmed by the sun won second place in the Grade 4-6 category. He earned a winner’s plaque, a $100 check and a $100 retail gift certificate to purchase Royal Brush art supplies. Bonner Elementary School received a $250 gift certificate for Royal Brush art supplies.

Eric says he used the $100 check to purchase Nike tennis shoes, but is most honored with the plaque.

“I have never won a plaque before so that is what I like most,” he said. Eric won various other art honors while at Bonner.

“I am so proud of Eric and the art program at Bonner,” art teacher George Brigman said. “We had four winners in national art contests and 21 students won awards in various art competitions last year. Bonner rocks the arts!”
