Sixty-two Tyler ISD students recieve AP Scholar honors

September 19, 2016

Each fall, the Advanced Placement (AP) Program of the College Board recognizes students who have demonstrated significant achievement on AP Exams through the AP Scholar Awards. Tyler ISD has learned that 62 students were named as AP Scholars based on scores from last year’s AP Exams.

In 2016, 40 Tyler ISD students were named AP Scholar, eight students were named AP Scholar with Honor and 14 students received AP Scholar with Distinction. Most notably, the following three students were honored as 2016 National AP Scholars:

  • Allan Evans (REL Class of 2016) who is currently attending Brigham Young University;

  • Alyssa Graham (REL Class of 2016) who is currently attending Rice University;

  • Lauren Lyons (REL Class of 2016) who is currently attending Southern Methodist University.

“Receiving AP honors is extremely difficult to do and is such an incredible achievement,” Gary Brown, executive director of college and career, said. “Having three students recognized by College Board as National AP Scholars is a true testament to the high caliber of students and teachers we have in this district.”

The breakdown of AP Scholar results and scores for Tyler ISD students is given below:

  • AP Scholar - Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams;

  • AP Scholar with Honor - Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams;

  • AP Scholar with Distinction - Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams;

  • National AP Scholar - Granted to students in the United States who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
