Veteran Tonya Hamilton McCorvey served in the United States Army from 1994 to 2004. After completing practical nurse training at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, she served in Humanitarian missions in El Salvador and Panama giving medical treatments to the people of those countries. Staff Sergeant McCorvey also trained Medical Reserve Units who were mobilized to Iraq and back filled Fort Polk Army Hospital for those active duty soldiers sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. She has received awards for high standards in physical fitness, including the Theodore Roosevelt Award, and participated in the Army Ten-Miler that is held in Washington, D.C. every October.
Staff Sergeant McCorvey is currently serving as a school nurse at Ramey Elementary School and often applies the skills learned during her service in the Army to her nursing career today. These skills include having patience with herself and others, teamwork, the importance of a positive environment, and working with a variety of skills and individuals to achieve a common goal.
Thank you Staff Sergeant McCorvey for your dedicated service to our country and to Tyler ISD!
