Veteran Sergeant Zaqueo “Zack” Cazares served in the United States Marine Corps from 1984-1993, completing his service Honorably as Sergeant in November 1993. In 1991, during Desert Storm, he served in combat as an Artillery Section Chief in the Battle of Khafji where he was responsible for his unit’s nuclear, biological and chemical training and preparedness. Sergeant Cazares served as a marine recruiter in Los Angeles, CA from 1991-1992.
Sergeant Cazares now serves as principal of Bonner Elementary School, where he says the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment continue to drive him as a person and professional. The greatest lesson he learned through the Marines, and what he hopes to instill in his students today, is the value of teamwork and comradery. He says that when individuals truly come together there is no obstacle that can stand in their way. Failure is not an option, because failing means letting down those who mean the most to you. Being part of a successful team takes everyone committing to a common purpose, knowing their role and being determined not to fail.
Thank you Sergeant Cazares for your dedicated service to our country and to Tyler ISD!
