Tyler ISD celebrates School Board members during Board Recognition Month

January 5, 2017

January is School Board Recognition Month and Tyler ISD will join other districts across the state to thank these local leaders for their dedication and willingness to serve as advocates for our children and public schools.

A reception to honor the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees will be held before the regular scheduled school board meeting Monday, Jan. 23, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Dr. Jack L. Davidson Conference Center located in the Plyler Instructional Complex. Educators, parents, students and community members are invited to attend. The monthly board meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

As elected officials, school board members are the voice of their communities, serving first and foremost in the best interest of Texas schoolchildren. Board members shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices. Their ultimate goal is always focused on the future success of the children across the district.

“Even though we are making a special effort in January to show appreciation to our board members, we realize their many contributions reflect a year-round commitment,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. “They generously give of themselves to ensure that decisions directly affecting our local schools are made by representatives of this community; people who are close to our schools and know our teachers, parents, and students.”

Tyler ISD has seven single-member districts, each represented by a Trustee. Together, the seven members serve as the District's policy-making body and represent administrators, staff, students, parents and the community. The annual event is an opportunity to recognize board members for their outstanding vision, leadership and tireless work to ensure educational success for all Tyler ISD students. Tyler ISD Board of Trustees are: Andy Bergfeld, President - District 7; Dr. Patricia Nation, Vice President - District 4; R. Wade Washmon - District 1; Rev. Orenthia Mason - District 2; Jean Washington - District 3; Aaron Martinez - District 5; Rev. Fritz Hager, Jr. - District 6.
