Throughout January, School Board Recognition Month, Tyler ISD is honoring school board members as their “All-Star Team” and thanking them for their commitment to serving students, parents and staff.
Dr. Patricia Nation has served as Trustee, representing District 4, since 2014 and brings to the Board more than 27 years of experience in education. Her teaching career began in Tyler ISD where she taught for six years at Hubbard Middle School. Dr. Nation then moved to Killeen where she taught for seven years before returning to Tyler and teaching at Dogan Middle School for two years.
Dr. Nation says what she values most about serving on the Board of Trustees is having the opportunity to positively affect the lives of the children, teachers, and other staff of Tyler ISD.
“It is an honor to be a part of this board serving with like-minded people whose desire is to effectively facilitate the learning of all students in the district.”
Dr. Nation, a graduate of Palestine High School, received her Bachelor of Science from The University of Texas at Tyler with a teaching certification in History, English and Social Studies Composite. She later earned a master’s degree in Educational Administration, Principal Certification and Superintendent Certification also from The University of Texas at Tyler. Dr. Nation received her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. She served in various administrator roles in the Van, Winona and New Summerfield school districts before retiring from New Summerfield in July 2013.
When asked who her favorite teacher was as a child, Dr. Nation says, “I liked most of my teachers throughout my school years, but if I had to recognize my favorite, it would be Mr. T. B. Mosley, my music teacher/choir director all four years of high school. He dreamed big and had high expectations of us. Mr. Mosley directed a Rogers and Hammerstein musical each year as well as other musical presentations, expecting the highest quality performances. He built the confidence of even the most reluctant aspiring performer, working with us individually to accept his critique and to follow through with his guidance.”
Thank you, Dr. Nation, for your commitment and service on the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees.
