Hazel Owens Elementary School has earned membership into the No Excuses University (NEU) Network of Schools, a national college readiness program. Owens earned the recognition by demonstrating a commitment to college readiness and through efforts to ensure all children meet standards in reading, writing and math, no matter their challenges.
“The NoExcuses University beliefs have driven our school’s mission and goals for the past several years,” Principal Laurie Greathouse said. “Our school’s culture and climate are tied to universal achievement for all. By using the exceptional systems design, we are better ensuring that every child is educated in a college-preparatory manner. NEU is an amazing initiative and we look forward to a long association with the network of schools who share this designation with us!”
To earn membership into this prestigious network of schools, Owens Elementary completed an extensive online application focused on the “Six Exceptional Systems” the school has developed based on the No Excuses University model. The school also was required to submit a video to the No Excuses University Application Committee to demonstrate the “Culture of Universal Achievement” they have developed on their campus.
“We are proud to partner with Owens Elementary School, and are inspired by the school’s commitment to college readiness and their relentless pursuit of success for all of their students,” stated the Vice President of No Excuses University, Frank Nardelli. “We believe all children deserve the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college if they so choose to attend. We believe all children can be academically successful. Most importantly, we believe the Owens Elementary School has the power to make this dream a reality.”
