Robert E. Lee High School senior Cody Olson was recognized for being named a 2018 National Merit Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. After graduation, Cody hopes to have the opportunity to attend Harvard University on his journey to a career in medicine.
Congratulations to Nakeitha Carter, a computer applications teacher at Three Lakes Middle School, for being named October’s Teacher of the Month. As a first year teacher at Three Lakes, she has had little to no discipline problems, is an optimal relationship builder and has a “go get ‘em” attitude, says Principal Christopher Blake.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has proclaimed October 2017 as “Principals Month” in Texas. In honor of our principals and assistant principals, the State of Texas is recognizing the elementary and secondary school administrators. School leadership is vital to the success of all students and Tyler ISD is proud to honor our secondary and elementary school principals this month.
In addition, Dr. Christy Hanson, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, provided an update to Trustees detailing that MAP data (or Measures of Academic Progress) is showing positive results to District efforts in revamping K-3 curriculum. Trustees also heard reports on Dogan Middle School Campus Improvement Plans that show dramatic signs of improvement due to a variety of factors, including a built in tutorial time/class period during the school day, additional staff support and enhanced curriculum resources.
