John Tyler High School AVID students seeking donations for ‘Blessing Backpacks’ project

November 29, 2017

Students in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at John Tyler High School plan to put together 100 Blessing Backpacks to donate to the Church Under the Bridge in Tyler, and the Tyler community can help!

Requested donations include basic cold weather items (hats, scarves, gloves), non-perishable food and drinks including restaurant gift cards, stationary, pens, stamps, phone cards, toiletries and more. Students will begin filling the backpacks Tuesday, Dec. 5, and will deliver the backpacks Friday, Dec. 8.

The AVID Program performs a variety of service projects throughout the year including donation drives, blood drives and more.

Donations can be dropped off in the John Tyler High School main office. Please contact April Caldwell at for more information.

About AVID: The AVID Program is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance. The mission of AVID focuses on providing access to four-year colleges for students in the middle, capable of completing a college preparatory path, so that they achieve success in a rigorous curriculum.
