Robert E. Lee (REL) High School Band member Daniel English and REL Jazz Band member Homer Holt were recently selected to join the 6A Texas All-State Band and Jazz Band respectively. Receiving an All-State invitation is highest honor a Texas music student can receive.
Daniel, a tenor trombone player in the REL Band, and Homer, trumpet player in the REL Jazz Band, will join other All-State Band students to perform at the 2018 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention in San Antonio, on Saturday, February 17, 2018.
High school students selected to perform in the All-State concerts are chosen through auditions to qualify at the state level. The process begins with over 70,000 students from around the state vying for the honor to perform in one of 15 ensembles (bands, orchestras, and choirs). Only the top 2.5%, 1,780 students, who initially audition become All-State musicians.
All-State students performing at the TMEA Convention participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors before their performance marks the conclusion of the convention.
