Tyler ISD Board of Trustees celebrated the accomplishments of District students, staff, and campuses during the regularly scheduled monthly Board of Trustees meeting held January 22.
The District recognized Nathaniel Kirksey, a fifth grade student at Woods Elementary School as the Elementary Student of the Month and Mary Angelie Fullo, an eighth grade student at Moore MST Magnet School, as Secondary Student of the Month.
Congratulations to Rosie Martinez, third grade teacher at Bonner Elementary School, for being named January’s District Teacher of the Month. Ms. Martinez creates fun and meaningful activities in class and conferences with her students regularly about their reading goals. This commitment has led her third grade students to achieving all of their reading goals during each six-week grading period this school year.
In addition, Stacy Pineda, director of PreK-3rd grade literacy, presented the Lone Star Governance Update regarding the district’s goal of enhancing PreK-3rd grade literacy scores. The Tyler ISD PreK—Grade 3 Early Literacy Plan is focused on student outcomes and providing a district-wide aligned curriculum which ensures that 85% or above of all Grade 3 students will read at or above grade level by the end of 2021. The curriculum supports skills that are assessed on MAP and highlights the district priority standards according to 2016-17 STAAR results.
The Board also heard a Tyler ISD Fall Sports update from Greg Priest, athletic director, and a Visual and Performing Arts program update from director Sandy Newton.
