Tyler ISD to host LitCon event

January 31, 2018

Tyler ISD is prepping for its first districtwide literacy awareness event taking place Monday, February 5 from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Career and Technology Center (CTC).

“Think Comic Con with books,” Shauna Hittle, Tyler ISD executive director of teaching and learning said. “LitCon 2018 will be an amazing night full of storytelling, costumes, food, books, reading resources and more! And, it is all FREE!”

Sponsored by the Tyler Council PTA, Tyler Proud, Office Pride and Tyler ISD, LitCon 2018 encourages parents and families to celebrate literacy and offers resources to enhance literacy skills at all ages.  Guests will gain valuable information on digital resources, E-books and reading applications, academic intervention, bilingual resources, early literacy activities, and more.

Guest author, Michael Anthony Steele, along with Mayor Martin Heines and other community partners, will lead story times alongside the Tyler Library, and every Tyler ISD campus library will offer interactive and engaging learning activities. Throughout the evening, there will also be door prizes, a book grab, free food, student performances, and a book character costume contest.

So, wear your favorite book character costume and come join the fun at LitCon 2018.
