John Tyler AVID students selected to attend leadership academy at The University of Texas

April 10, 2018

Two John Tyler High School juniors, Cameron Grant and Celeste Duran, were recently selected to attend the 2018 Subiendo Academy leadership program sponsored by The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. The 2018 Academy will be June 10-14, 2018 at the UT campus.

Subiendo means “climbing” or “going up," and refers to the next generation of rising leaders who will address the challenges of our state and nation. The five day summer leadership program is designed to prepare young leaders in addressing the needs of the next generation by problem solving issues in healthcare, energy/environment, and education.

Students gain leadership skills through training and team building exercises, networking with prominent business and political figures, and project-based curriculum analyzing current policy issues.

Cameron is a two year varsity letterman in football, three year member of the JT Track Team, three year AVID student and is a member of the National Honor Society, North Star Missionary Baptist Church and Tyler Young Life. Celeste is six year AVID student and member of the National Honor Society and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
