John Tyler High School hosts 'Shattered Dreams' event

April 27, 2018

John Tyler High School Student Council and local sponsors recently hosted a Shattered Dreams event on campus. Shattered Dreams is a major alcohol awareness event that illustrates the dangers of drinking while driving and alcohol abuse.

Shattered Dreams stages a MOCK traffic accident (using student actors) where rescue workers treat injured student participants as well as process a scene just as what would happen in a real accident.

Students experienced firsthand, the sensations of being involved in a tragic, alcohol-related collision. During the mock accident, the City of Tyler Fire, Police and EMS units, as well as the Air One helicopter and hearse from a local funeral home responded to the scene. The coroner handled fatalities on the scene, while the injured students were extricated by the jaws-of-life manned by the City of Tyler firefighters and paramedics. Additionally, police officers investigated, arrested, and booked the student “drunk driver.”
