Meet the Department: English Language Arts

September 21, 2018

Literacy is a top priority for Tyler ISD and a Lone Star Governance Goal.  With more than 212 years of combined educational experience, the English Language Arts (ELAR) Instructional Specialists team supports teachers using a data-driven approach to share curriculum implementation and best practices strategies in literacy. So what does this look like?

When a teacher is noticing her students are struggling to comprehend certain concepts, they reach out to their campus Master Teacher. The Master Teacher then works with the ELAR team to put together a focused plan to help address the content areas needed and provide expertise and modeled instruction to help increase student success.

Other areas of support may include providing teacher professional development opportunities through guest speakers, book studies, teacher-facilitated best practice examples and more!

ELAR has many exciting things planned for teachers and students alike throughout the upcoming year to ultimately increase literacy skills through the shared goal of building critical thinkers, readers and writers.
