Meet the Department: Teaching & Learning

December 7, 2018

In Tyler ISD, everyone is a learner! The Teaching and Learning Department is committed to helping Tyler educators achieve their goals as lifelong learners; both personally and professionally.

Shauna Hittle and the team of 10 in the Teaching and Learning Department, bring 163 years of education experience to support campus and district personnel. This team collaborates with all departments within Tyler ISD to ensure high quality professional development is provided that meets the specific needs of the adult learner.

Mrs. Hittle explains, “We work every day to provide a wide array of opportunities for Tyler ISD educators to grow in the fields of expertise while also encouraging and equipping them in new arenas.”

The Tyler ISD Teaching and Learning department encourage professional learning such as:

  •          The new technology badging system to celebrate teachers for incorporating new technology instructional strategies into their lesson design;

  •          The newly launched LiveWell program to offer health and wellness tips for Tyler ISD staff. Monthly newsletters and guest speaker presentations offer tips and resources for managing stress, exercising regularly, local wellness activities and more!  And best of all, employees can log hours for credit through Eduphoria! Catch the next presentation on December 10, when Camp Gladiator instructor Christy Dunton will offer tips on how to start the new year with a new workout routine;

  •          The popular LITCON event promotes Literacy to thousands of Tyler ISD students and families. LITCON 2019 will be held Feb. 4 at the CTC;

  •          Survey and collect data to offer Tyler ISD educators voice and choice into their own professional learning needs.

  •          Reinforces Tyler ISD’s Theory of Action and Instructional Framework to help teachers put PD into action each and every day! Teachers share artifacts of learning through Big Play hashtags on Twitter, sharing ideas and support with each other. If you aren’t following @tylerisdlearn on Twitter, you should!
