Tyler ISD students compete in District UIL academic meet

Tyler ISD elementary schools recently competed in a districtwide UIL Academic meet. Winning teams from the competition are invited to a Citywide Invitational Meet scheduled for March 23 at the Career and Technology Center.
Students competed in the categories of art, creative writing, dictionary skills, maps-charts-graphs, music memory, number sense, oral reading, ready writing, spelling, and storytelling. First and second place individual finishers are invited to compete at the citywide meet. In addition, the top three schools in overall points are also invited to compete at the citywide meet.
Two hundred seventy five students competed in the Area 1 division that included Bell, Birdwell, Bonner, Caldwell, Douglas, Owens, Peete, Ramey, and Woods elementary schools. Owens, Caldwell and Birdwell claimed first, second and third place team finishes advancing them to the city meet. Area 2 schools had a showing of 251 students from Clarkston, Dixie, Griffin, Jack, Jones, Orr, and Rice elementary schools, with Rice, Jack and Griffin finishing in the top three and next competing in the city meet.
