Meet the Department: Financial Services

February 27, 2019

The Tyler ISD Financial Services department has a mission to pursue excellence in stewardship and service for students, employees, taxpayers and vendors. On top of this mission, the dedicated team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Tosha Bjork, has a heart for students and staff with a passion for helping them succeed!

The finance team consists of eight members, whose 111 years of combined experience in the areas of school budgets, accounts payable, reimbursements, check requests, purchase order processing and more, earn the district TOP financial ratings year after year. Not at all the stereotypical “number crunchers” as the industry can be portrayed, Tyler ISD Financial Services is a fun group with a variety of outside-of-work hobbies, such as sports enthusiasts, dancers, marathon runners, and decorators just to name a few.

Fun Facts: On average, in ONE YEAR, the Financial Services department reviews and processes over:

  • 4,100 budget change requests;

  • 22,100 invoices;

  • 9,100 purchase orders;

  • 8,100 cash receipts;

  • 3,700 employee reimbursements; and

  • 3,600 check requests!

“Our department takes seriously the task of efficiently and effectively overseeing the use of taxpayer dollars in improving student outcomes,” Tosha Bjork said. “I feel privileged to work with such a great group of people who are committed to excellence in performing their jobs.”
