March is all about art in Tyler ISD as campuses join districts across the state in celebrating Texas Art Education Association’s Big Art Day in conjunction with Youth Art Month!
Big Art Day is an art happening to raise awareness of art education and art as a creative force on a statewide scale to engage all art educators, their students and communities in a single day art event.
Projects included Caldwell Arts Academy’s fabric tapestry sculpture, clay ceramics, paintings and more! Jack Elementary projects incorporated science into the art fun with discussions on the sun as an energy source, physically and emotionally, as well as reflection and refraction. Students painted encouraging and creative scenes on compact discs that, when hung, allow light to reflect and refract off the surface of the design.
The main districtwide event is a fun “Art Crawl” opportunity where students can visit a variety of art venues throughout Tyler. Upon visiting the venue, students receive an art splat to paste on their art board. Students then turn in their completed art board by March 29 for a chance to win a basket of art supplies.
Participating venues include Tyler Museum of Art, Gallery Main Street, Valerosa Designs & Gallery, Strada Caffe, The Foundry Coffee House and Tyler Street Art.
