The Tyler ISD Purchasing and Risk Management department utilizes their more than 25 years of experience to help campuses and staff purchase the items they need to create successful student outcomes. Additionally, the department manages non-medical insurance and risk management tasks, such as facility insurance needs and injury claims.
Led by Coordinator Ramsey Starks, the team of three includes Administrative Assistant Sue Benson and Purchasing Specialist Kasey Finley. Together, the trio strives to assist staff with understanding laws and regulations that stipulate how purchases can be made in an educational environment.
Fun Department Facts:
They recently analyzed more than 2,000 vendors internally to ensure the approved vendor list remains accurate and efficient;
They processed more than 9,000 purchase orders during Fiscal Year 2018;
Vendor preference is awarded to LOCAL vendors first to help support our LOCAL economy;
One of them is an AGGIE! Gig’em Kasey!
Contrary to how some may feel, Ramsey says, it is NOT a goal of the purchasing department to say “No!” But rather, the goal is to help people find creative and different solutions to meet their needs.
“Purchasing is really a service industry,” Ramsey said. “By helping others meet their goals, we in turn meet our goals. We are here to help in any way needed.”
