Tyler ISD culinary arts students create championship dish at 2019 Taste of Tyler

April 5, 2019

The Tyler ISD culinary arts team created a championship-worthy dish at the 2019 Taste of Tyler event recently, where they competed against four teams from three high schools in the area.

The challenge: create a dish in under an hour using chicken and other mystery ingredients not known to them before the competition.

The strategy: "Practice very basic things using different, versatile ingredients like pesto, sauces, things that could go with practically anything but you can spice up a little bit,” Tyler ISD team member Aurora Brelead said. “Bold flavor is definitely like a really big thing."

Strategy and lots of preparation paid off for the first place team, earning the Tyler ISD Culinary Department a $300 prize.

Congratulations students!
