John Tyler senior advances to national SAR Oration Contest

April 10, 2019

Jose Romero, senior at John Tyler High School, recently claimed first place in the State level competition of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest. With his championship finish, Jose advances to the national level competition this summer.

The SAR invites all high school students (9th through 12th grades) interested in the American Revolution to participate in the oration contest. Each student’s five-to-six-minute speech (and accompanying manuscript) are judged based upon its composition, delivery, significance, and historical accuracy and relevance.

Prizes are awarded to the National First Place Winner ($5,000), 2nd Place Runner-up ($3,000) and 3rd Place Runner-up ($2,000). All other finalists (4th through 6th Place runners-up) are awarded $400 and all other national contestants are awarded $200.

Congratulations, Jose!
