The Tyler ISD Visual and Performing Arts department strives to enhance learning through the arts. Led by Director Sandy Newton and her assistant, Christin Blake, visual and performing arts provides a vertically aligned curriculum that begins with elementary and builds to middle and high school levels. This curriculum showcases student talent on multiple levels and builds community connections to expose students to a variety of art mediums and experiences.
More than 90 percent of Tyler ISD K-12 students participate in a fine art and more than 100 fine art educators throughout the District help to cultivate a true and lasting love of the arts. Fine arts in Tyler ISD include: band, orchestra, choir, theatre, ensemble, art, photography, music and so much more!
More than 1500 musical instruments are in the hands of Tyler ISD students;
Tyler ISD students present more than 230 performances each school year;
More than 100 visual arts exhibits have been on display this year;
In 2018-2019 six secondary campuses in Tyler ISD had a band that earned Sweepstakes at UIL concert and sight reading.
