Tyler ISD is helping to build a strong early literacy foundation among its youngest students through family engagement opportunities called Teaching Together Family Workshops. Tyler ISD elementary campuses will host six fun and educational workshops throughout the summer specifically designed to engage incoming pre-k and kindergarten students while making learning fun for the whole family.
The following six workshops will help students get a jump start on developing early literacy skills while also teaching families how to create environments at home where students are excited to engage in pre-reading and reading activities:
Building Trust and Cooperation – Learn how to help your child understand his or her feelings, while building self-confidence with positive messages to encourage cooperation.
Talking is Teaching – Learn how to focus your child’s interests and use everyday conversations to maximize learning.
Making Books Come Alive – Learn how to make books come alive by asking questions and expanding on your child’s ideas while reading together.
Playing with Letters and Sounds – Learn how to use the world around you to teach your child about letters and sounds.
Building Vocabulary – Build your child’s word knowledge by using big and sophisticated words in everyday conversations and by defining words in ways your child understands.
Writing Together – Learn how to use the world around you to teach your child about writing.
