The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) recently announced that Tyler ISD is among only 20 districts from across the state to earn a TAEA District of Distinction Award. The District of Distinction Award recognizes districts for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and reach all learners.
For the 2019 award, more than 1,000 districts were eligible to apply. Only 20 districts met the high standard to receive the honor, indicating they are in the top 2 percent of districts in the state.
“We are so very honored to be among the top 20 districts in the state to receive the TAEA District of Distinction Award for our visual arts programs in Tyler ISD,” Director of Visual and Performing Arts Sandy Newton said. “Our teachers and students are incredibly talented in visual arts and to be honored with this caliber of award is a true testament to the caliber of program we have in Tyler ISD.”
Earlier this year, Tyler ISD received 2019 Best Communities for Music Education from the NAMM Foundation.
