Rice Elementary School celebrates Read-a-Thon success

October 4, 2019

”If I read, I succeed!” That was the theme for the Rice Elementary School PTA Read-a-Thon fundraiser, and succeed is exactly what the Rice Rangers did!

Throughout the two-week fundraiser, Rice Principal Shelly Bosley challenged her students to reach a goal of reading at least 200,000 minutes and raising $20,000. If they met that goal, she promised to let the class who read the most and raised the most money turn her into a human ice cream sundae complete with toppings, sprinkles and even a cherry on top.

Students smashed their goal by reading 278,920 minutes and raising $22,296.

"I am really proud of the Rice Rangers," Mrs. Bosley said. "Our students and staff really got behind it and created a lot of excitement about reading. They read during the school day, checked out library books, and were just reading everywhere. I am so proud of everyone for beating our goal and making reading fun!"
