Approximately 200 Tyler ISD students from John Tyler, Robert E. Lee, Early College High School, and the Career and Technology Center participated in Junior Achievement’s inaugural Stock Market Challenge.
The multifaceted stock market program teaches high school students how the stock market works, the necessity of team work, and tests their financial knowledge.
After a few detailed instructions from event emcee, Bill Coates, the opening bell rang and the markets were open.
Student teams begin with $1 million of fictitious capital to invest in stocks based on real-life companies. The simulation is that of 60 day stock market cycle with each day lasting 60 seconds.
Each “day” brings news, trends and tips from financial markets. After the closing bell, the team with the highest net worth in its stock portfolio wins.
When the market closed, the John Tyler “Colts” team came in first place, followed by second place “Rays” team and third place “Sharks” team, both from Robert E. Lee.
Thank you, Junior Achievement, for this learning opportunity!
