The primary focus of the Tyler ISD Board Recognition Program is to acknowledge accomplishments achieved by Tyler Independent School District students, employees, campuses and departments. We were proud to recognize the following for their accomplishments during the January 2020 Regular Board meeting.
The Elementary Student of the Month is Ja’Coryen Kennedy, a first grade student at Austin Elementary School. The Secondary Student of the Month is Necairah Collins, a sixth grade student at Boutler Middle School. The District Students of the Month program is a partnership between Tyler ISD and CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.
Trustees also recognized Robert E. Lee High School senior, Elizabeth Boynton, for being selected to march in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in New York City. Hubbard Middle School students, Kate Thomas and Emily Parker, led their fellow Huskies in collecting more than 3,000 pairs of socks for St. Paul’s Children Foundation. In addition, Griffin Elementary School’s Juan Chapa was recognized for organizing a campus clean up club.
We also celebrate our District Teacher of Month, Sandra Fillmore, a fifth grade teacher at Bell Elementary School. Ms. Fillmore devotes her time to ensure successful student outcomes for all of her students. She tutors two days out of the week with one of those days being Friday after school. Mrs. Fillmore is focused on meeting the needs of her students and takes time to dig deep into data to differentiate the learning in her classroom. Congratulations Mrs. Fillmore.
Finally, Trustees proudly recognized John Tyler football standout and former NFL player Teddy Williams for his generosity in donating a bicycle to one boy and one girl at each Tyler ISD Elementary School before the Christmas break. Thank you, Mr. Williams.
