Tyler ISD tennis, football athletes sign letters of intent during National Signing Day

Congratulations to the following student athletes for signing letters of intent to play at the collegiate level!

 

John Tyler High School Athlete Information

Football

Name: Shiloh Canady, Southern Arkansas University

Position: Linebacker

2019 Stats: 39 tackles; five tackles for loss; one sack; one interception; one pass break up; one forced fumble

Awards: 2019 7-5A Division I First Team All-District Outside Linebacker

Coach Holmes: “Glad to have him play his senior year here at JT, very solid football player, with huge potential.”

 

Name: Phillip Bussey, Defiance College

Position: Defensive Back

2019 Stats: one tackle; one fumble recovery

Coach Holmes: Great kid with lots of heart and lots of ability. True example of what happens when you trust the process and stick to the plan.”

 

Name: Angel Sarmiento, Navarro College

Position: Offensive Line

2019 Stats: 21 pancakes; 17 knockdowns

Awards: 2019 7-5A Division I First Team All-District Offensive Lineman

Coach Holmes: “Very physical and smart OL that has NFL potential.”

 

Name: Isaiah Johnson, Trinity Valley Community College

Position: Linebacker

2019 Stats: Defense - 51 tackles; five tackles for loss; five sacks; nine QB pressures; two interceptions; three forced fumbles; two fumble recoveries; Offense - 23 carries for 44 yards; five receptions for 92 yards; 17-41 for 211 passing yards

Awards: 2019 7-5A Division I First Team All-District Outside Linebacker

Coach Holmes: “One of the best football players that I have had the opportunity to coach. Has a bright future in life overall and will have an opportunity to play in the NFL.”

 

Name: Daveon Cummings

Position: Linebacker, Howard Payne University

2019 Stats: 76 tackles; six tackles for loss; three sacks; one forced fumble

Awards: 2019 7-5A Division I First Team All-District Inside Linebacker

Coach Holmes: “Hard working LB that plays smart and fast. Enjoyed coaching him and seeing him improve each year.”

 

Name: D'Jonte Henderson, Trinity Valley Community College

Position: Defensive Back

2019 Stats: 56 tackles; one tackle for loss; one interception; nine pass break ups

Awards: 2019 7-5A Division I Second Team Safety

Coach Holmes: “Versatile player with natural ability to play the game of football; wish he would have played before his senior year and can't wait to see how much he improves in college.”

 

 

Robert E. Lee High School Athlete Information:

Tennis

Name: Lilly Deatherage, Midwestern State University

Fall Team Tennis - 4x District Team Tennis Champions; 4x Bi-District Champions; 4x Area Champions; 4x Regional Quarterfinalist

Lilly was 26-0 in singles and 26-0 in doubles over four years in Fall District Play.

Spring Individual Stats - 2x District Champion in Mixed Doubles; District Champion in Girls Doubles; 3x Regional Qualifier

 

Football

Name: Seth Leon, Wayland Baptist University

2019 Stats: 33 total tackles, 28 solo tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, one pass break up, five QB pressures

Awards: 2nd Team All District Defensive End; Invited to play in FCA All Star Game

Coach Jason Pits: “Seth is the definition of persistent. Knowing he would have to work harder than anyone, he did and earned his way onto the field. This no-quit attitude opened the door for him to continue his playing days beyond high school. The sky is the limit for him.”

 

Name: Jamichael Turman, McPherson College

2019 Stats: 13 total tackles, six solo tackles, seven asst. tackles, one fumble recovery

Awards: 3rd Team All District Outside Linebacker

Coach Jason Pits: “Jamichael is one of the strongest pound-for-pound kids you will ever meet. He doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit. His work ethic earned him a chance to play at the next level. He has a bright future.”

 

Name: Jeremiah Turner, Ouchita Baptist University

2019 Stats: 29 Receptions, 444 yards, two TDs, one fumble recovery, one fumble recovery TD

Awards: 3rd Team All District Wide Receiver

Coach Jason Pits: “Jeremiah may be the best kid I have been around in 13 years of coaching. He has more heart and cares for those around him more than most people. He will accomplish whatever it is he wants to do with his life.”
