Douglas Elementary School kindergartners receive free book in honor of former teacher

March 5, 2020

Former Douglas Elementary School kindergarten teacher, Dorothy Dietering, impacted the lives of many students throughout her 27-year teaching career by sharing her love of reading with them every day. Ms. Dietering passed away five years ago, but her love of reading continues to inspire students through her daughter, Bea Taylor, who donates a free book to every kindergarten student at Douglas Elementary.

“My mother loved teaching kindergarten,” Ms. Taylor said. “She would get up early every morning and just couldn’t wait to get to school. The most important thing she thought kindergarteners should learn is to read, because if they can learn to read, they can become anything and anybody.”
